Charlotte Dumas Repose

The stunning new book, Repose, that appears with the exhibition of the same title at FO.KU.S Foto Kunst Stadtforum, Innsbrück and Julie Saul Gallery, New York, contains ten portraits of wolves, horses, dogs and tigers that Dumas has encountered in with her camera since 2005. Including portraits from the series Reverie, Palermo 7, Tiger Tiger, Heart shaped Hole, Heart of a Dog and of her most recent work Parade.

The images selected are printed in outstanding quality and impressively large size. The pages are inter-folded as loose sheets making it possible to view them as separate centerfolds.

A full color index of portraits from each series presented prominently lines the inside the cover that firmly encases the work.

A limited edition of 100 copies is available, especially including one of two unique offset printed images; India 2007 or Vittorio Emanuele 2008.

Signed and numbered.

Charlotte Dumas - Paradis
4 September – 22 November 2009
Foam_Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam presents Paradis: the first major retrospective of the work of Dutch photographer Charlotte Dumas (b. 1977, Vlaardingen). Dumas makes serene, intimate portraits of animals. For the first time, Dumas presents a selection from the various series of animal portraits she has made in recent years. Shown here in a single exhibition, a new relationship emerges between the portraits of horses, wolves, tigers and other animals, highlighting the connection between the different subjects. Dumas also presents a selection of the polaroids she has taken on the side since she began and which provide tangible evidence of her extensive travels in pursuit of her subject.

Behind the Lens: New York City’s Shelter Dogs
Photographer Charlotte Dumas will speak about her portraits of New York City shelter dogs, now on view in Dutch Seen: New York Rediscovered, followed by a discussion with dog handlers from Animal Care & Control of New York City about their work in rescuing, caring for, and finding homes for homeless and abandoned animals throughout the five boroughs. Ms. Dumas has concentrated her career on photographing animals, including stray dogs in Palermo, Italy; race horses in France and Italy; wolves in Norway, Sweden, and the United States; and tigers in captivity around the United States. The event will be preceded by a “meet and greet” with several shelter dogs (available for adoption) on the Museum’s front terrace.

Free with Museum admission.
Reservations recommended, please call 212.534.1672, 3395
